12:13 pm -- I believe we were on our way to the hospital this time last year. Around 5:30 am I decided it might be time to turn on the lamp so I could see the stopwatch and time those pesky contractions that were beginning to keep me awake. Then I showered. I had to wash my hair. Around 11 am we headed to the doctor, "just to see". By this time contractions had me dropping to my knees for relief. Some people thought this was funny. Doctor said, "You're having a baby today!" I was 6cm and fully efaced, which meant a lot of work had already been done. I felt good about that. We were admitted to the hospital around 1pm. After a fully non-medicated natural childbirth (Mario likes to say that I even refused a Tylenol for my headache) (thanks Bradley Method), Aiyana Lee Calderon entered the world at 8:19 pm.
That is the short and sweet version of our birth story. But the occasion itself was perfect and actually quite short and sweet.
12:21 pm today -- I am accomplishing today's most important task -- ensuring that the birthday girl is well-rested for her big party. She has made this easy on me as well since she fell asleep in her carseat on the way home from church. Job done.
